What to Expect
What happens when you reach out
Reaching out for support is often the hardest step. Here’s exactly what happens next, from your first message to your first session.
If it’s a child in your life who’s grieving, our children’s grief-play therapy page walks through what that looks like, and our post on child grief awareness explains how kids process loss differently than adults.
If the loss you’re carrying is your own (a spouse, a parent, or grief that has stayed intense and hard to live around), those pages walk through how this work can help.
Not sure which one fits, or just want the whole picture first? See our grief counseling overview.
If what brought you here isn’t grief (an ADHD brain that’s tired of fighting the system, or anxiety that won’t quiet down), our pages on ADHD & neurodivergent-affirming therapy and anxiety therapy walk through how that work looks too.
Five plain steps, no surprises
1
You reach out. Call, email, or use the contact form, whichever feels easiest for you.
2
We have a short, no-pressure conversation. A brief call to hear a little about what’s going on. Nothing is decided yet.
3
We find a time. You’ll get a session time that actually works with your schedule.
4
Your first session. A chance to talk, ask questions, and get a feel for whether this is the right fit. There’s no expectation that you’ll share more than you’re ready to.
5
We build a plan together. From there, we figure out what ongoing support looks like, at a pace that makes sense for you.

Your first step is a free 15-minute phone consultation, no cost, no commitment. From there, sessions are $150 flat, every session, for as long as ongoing support makes sense for your family. Talamantez Therapy is not in-network with insurance providers, but many clients use HSA/FSA funds or submit for out-of-network reimbursement. If you’d like to submit for reimbursement, we’ll provide a superbill you can submit to your insurer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Questions you might have
Do you take insurance?
Talamantez Therapy is not in-network with any insurance providers, but if you’d like to seek out-of-network reimbursement, we’re happy to provide a superbill you can submit to your insurer upon request.
What happens in the first session?
We start with a free 15-minute phone consultation to hear a little about what’s going on, no cost, no obligation. From there, your first full session is 45 minutes, the same as every session after it: a chance to talk, ask questions, and figure out together what ongoing support might look like. There’s no obligation to continue after that first session.
How do I know if therapy is the right fit for my family right now?
You don’t have to be certain before reaching out. Many people book a first session while still unsure whether they need it. That conversation itself is often how you find out.
What if I’m not ready to talk about everything yet?
That’s completely normal, and nothing about the first session requires you to. We move at the pace that’s right for you, not a fixed script.
